I had an Office Star Chair for over 8 years before I bought another August 17. 2021. The last one I owned had the pneumatic cylinder fail after 8 years and I decided it was time to replace the entire chair. This one has been a huge disappointment. The warranty claims to send issues to
[email protected] and that they respond within 24 hours. I sent an email December 22, 2021 and January 14, 2022. I have yet to receive a response. What good it a warranty that will not be honored? My new chair inexplicably releases short amount of air until it reaches its lowest setting. I am 6'6" so this unacceptable. I would not recommend this product for the failing pneumatic cylinder after only 3 months of use. I would especially not recommend this product because of lack of customer service. I loved my old chair. Hate this chair. I will not buy Office Star again!***Update***2/2/2022: The day after I posted this negative review my email was finally answered. I was asked to provide model number. I received a reply that my request was processed. A new pneumatic cylinder arrived yesterday and I switch the original out with the new one. What a difference this has made. The original did not sit up as high as the replacement does and for 6'6" guy it makes a huge difference. I been experiencing back problems lately and now I am convince it was because of the faulty original pneumatic cylinder. I have switch my rating from one star to 3 stars because Office Star did honor the warranty. I just hate that it took a negative review and over a month to get a response.I want to add that changing the pneumatic cylinder our is not an easy process. I watched a couple of YouTube videos and those make the process look so easy. A rubber mallet got the cylinder removed from the chair fairly easily. To remover the cylinder from the chair base was a chore. Ultimately I had to take a hammer and beat the cylinder out of the base but it took many strikes to get it freed. Watch your feet when it lets go because it is heavy. This thing is a Beast of a Chair. The Mack Truck of office chairs. This thing epitomizes the old school days where quality and durability were paramount to construction. The base alone weights probably 20 pounds, not the full seating assembly, just the metal mechanism controls for the chair.Solid steel pretty much everywhere except parts that are padded. The seat padding is very comfy, almost too comfy? My butt is not acclimated to this degree of comfort. The mesh is not bad, just the right amount of resistance. The material is very grippy, and can be a bit scratchy if I rub my elbows against it. However it does nothing to distract with normal use.Oddly enough, one elbow rest is slightly higher than the other. Like maybe 2mm's higher. It's hard to tell when looking dead on at it, but I notice it when I rest my arms. The reclining feature is probably the best. Generally with recliners you have 2 positions, locked up-right, or unlocked and free reclining. This chair allows you to unlock it, manually recline to a desired degree, then re-lock to set the position. It does have certain catch points where if you don't recline to a specified amount it'll shift forward a bit, but it's still a nice feature. The seat also slides, allowing full forward and back adjustment for spacing between the back rest and seat.Lumbar support is pretty nice once the proper position is obtained. It's a bit stiff and lumpy in a specific spot, but for me happens to be the location I need support for my back.My only concern, as with all mesh chairs, is how long the material will last before it gets droopy and lack proper springiness and resistance, or outright tears. The chair comes with a 3 year limited warranty on upholstery, however it does include a life time warranty on mechanical parts. I hope this chair lasts more than 3 years, it's literally built like a tank, other than the possible susceptible mesh back.In any case, a great purchase.P.S. the chair reeks when you first open it up. I'm assuming it will subside, but it's pretty overwhelming. Need to air this guy out. Also, there is a "California" warning stating that materials used in constructions are attributed to cancer... Not sure if this is simply during the manufacturing process, or the materials themselves are cancer... The smell might suggest the latter, but whatever, there is no compromise for comfort. Most chairs seem rated for 250lbs. I needed a chair that could support some extra weight and a seat wide and deep enough for good thigh support. They had a 16 day delivery window and it arrived right in the middle (day 7). Took about 20 minutes to assemble. All pieces were there with simple instructions. Would have ben even faster if I had a hex key bit for my driver (half the screws could only do a quarter turn before hitting another part of the chair and needing to reposition the hex key. But straight forward and fairly quick. The recline mechanism is pretty heavy (ok for me, but if you have some strength issues or arthritis, you might want someone else to help a bit.). Once I had it all together and could sit in the chair, it was clear this was a good choice for me.One item for my wish list-would love the chair arms to move forward and backward and maybe a headrest. But overall seems well worth the price. Seat is very comfortable. Lumbar support seems to hit where I need it. My wife is 5’ tall and its about an inch too high for her feet to touch the ground. So seems like chair would work for folks 5’3” or 5’4”.Lifetime warrantee on all parts except 3 years on the fabrics. What an amazing chair! Just received it today. It's heavy duty, like they used to make office chairs 10 years ago. I had an office star chair, but had to give it away because i moved to another state and decided it was cheaper to ship 7 boxes rather than move everything. So got rid of it with the rest of my other furniture. I tried to find a similar office chair at office supply stores, but couldn't find anything like this. Eventually I had to order this from amazon to replace my old office chair that I had for years and would have kept if I didn't move. Finally I'm back to my old comfortable chair! I won't buy any other brand.Very comfortable - so happy with purchase - just what I needed.Very comfortable and has nice padding. I am 5'5 and my legs are a little short for it. It would be nice if they made if a little shorter with the ability to go higher for taller people.Very comfortable chair and solid build
