My boy is at his happiest when we have fresh snow and he has a frozen cookie to throw up in the air and play catch. When he's done playing with it, he likes a post-catch snack. The problem is, after awhile he figured out how to unsnap the flap. He also attacked it with his dew claw. Now, the design of this is still the best that I've seen. He'll smoosh poo into the wire ones and the others with the opening in front just means that he takes smaller bites.Since he attempted to shred this, I got a little duct tape for reinforcement. It's not perfect, but it does the job. He only wears it for a few minutes at a time, so it works. If he was to wear it longer, my rigging wouldn't work.If the red peices were made of a nice hard plastic, this would be perfect for my boy. He's too smart. I'll have to get another one in the fall, but it saved us this winter from another day of him eating too much poo and getting sick all over the house... Trust me. You never want that stinch in your house, especially when it's 20 below and you can't open up the windows. The strap is too short. So it's too tight on a 95 lb bouvier. The front of this mask broke down pretty quickly.I originally bought this muzzle for my pit bull to wear out in the yard to prevent her from eating rocks and dirt. I bought the size recommended (large) and though it does fit her circumference of her muzzle just barely (it is a shy bit too small for her jowls width) it is quite long in the snout. That is ok by me because it makes it harder for her to try and press stuff into the muzzle hole. The bad thing is the flap that covers that hole is not very secure/effective and she can maneuver it down and 'shovel' things in it if she tries hard enough. The hole itself is too big in my opinion (about the size of a half dollar) and I have thought about sewing it shut and getting rid of that flap altogether. The mesh on the snout allows for drinking (she has a water bowl outside too) in this muzzle as it is roomy enough to permit that for her, but it is a mess when she starts dripping water everywhere and rubbing her face on everything, so be warned if your dog decides to drink in his.I also use this muzzle on my boxer female to keep her from licking her bitch britches when she is in season. It works, and the lack of a center strap down the forehead doesn't seem to be an issue as neither of them have been able to get it off. It seems to be holding up really good and comes clean with ease.I purchased this muzzle in a size large for my 85 pound Doberman Pinscher following a surgery that left him with seven sutures on his front leg. This muzzle prevented him from chewing/licking the surgical site and worked much, much better for us than Elizabethan collars do.For the price, I would recommend this muzzle to anyone to use as an alternative to an E-collar, however it is important to note the following:-With the "nose-strip" buttoned across the nose, air-flow is somewhat more restricted than I would like, so I leave it open: problem solved.-My dog can NOT drink or take treats with this muzzle on.-My dog CAN get the muzzle off with his paws (he can also remove E-collars). The single strap around the neck is not the most secure, but I think it might also have to do with the shape of my Doberman's streamlined snout/head. However, I think any seriously determined dog would be able to wriggle out of this muzzle without issue.**This muzzle would definitely not be appropriate to wear for extended periods of time (dog can not access water), while unsupervised (dog can get it off), or outside in the heat (ventilation is not adequate for labored breathing), but I think this is a GREAT alternative to an E-collar to prevent licking/chewing legs/wounds/surgical sites and could be alright for occasional use (trips to vet, during grooming/nail trimming, in an emergency, etc.)Very happy with the size Large, used for my 65 lb. Chinook who is too interested in eating random objects he encounters hiking the trails with me (latest surgery to remove a hoof means when off leash, this muzzle is on his head). Just came back to order another since my current one is starting to wear after just over 2 years heavy use.The muzzle fits well -- much more comfortable than our basket muzzle -- and allows for the dog to sniff and smell, romping as usual. Opening snap is great for giving the dog a break to breath more freely -- needed after a run, but otherwise the mesh lets plenty of air in.A persistent dog may remove the muzzle in time, not appropriate for prolonged use.I was very pleased to find a soft material that wouldn't press against my dog's nose when I snugged up the neck strap. Unfortunately the shape of my dog's head requires that a head strap be added. I like the idea of the dog being able to drink while it's on, although that would take some training for my gal. Smart that the strap can go across the bottom, so that the dog can't lick and irritate a sore. I hoped to use this, instead of the cone of shame, after a foot surgery, but didn't get the top strap sewn on in time. Very nice to have a soft material offered since the hard plastic or rubber muzzles can cause sores from pressing on the nose when snugged so the dog can't just push it off their head.I purchased this muzzle in size large for my 7 year old Rottweiler. The actual muzzle fit perfectly but the back strap was little short. I had to pull it all the way to the end to get it to fit around his head. (I did measure him before I purchased it)Pros:Mesh insert allows him to breath easier and makes wearing the muzzle more comfortable.Muzzle is loose enough to allow him to drink and eatCons:The back strap is a little to short (or maybe my dog just has a really big head)The front strap is a little bulky. I only plan to use it when I am in crowded areas or the vet's office so when I'm not using it, I don't what to do with it. I folded it and snapped it onto the side of the muzzle but it looks really weird and bulky.I've only been using the it for three weeks, but overall, it's a decent muzzle.Exactly what I was looking for! My dog kept licking a hot spot and everything I'd tried failed to prevent it, but this works great. The strap on the front is kind of too small for either drinking or treats but lines up perfectly with his nose so his breathing is in no way restricted, I just cut it off. It is tough, well made and guaranteed for life, so I am very pleased. Large is a perfect fit for my 80 pound Labrador/Rough Collie cross and he doesn't hate it as much as he did the E-collar (cone of shame). We needed a muzzle for our black lab. The mongrel was going out in the yard and eating poop like it was tartufo. He started to get sick from whatever he was ingesting, we assume it's the creamy chocolate of other dogs or possibly raccoons. This muzzle works wonders, it's like a cone shame that they can't shake off. He actually likes it now after tricking him into it with a treat the first few times! What's better, you can tell when he's found some brown goodness because it's smeared on the front that clips over the mouth, haha no desert for you! Easy to clean with a garden hose!i have a Shetland and the recomanded size is so small that she started to vomit after wearing 1 minutes. Could not return cause of it. If you buy maybe dont trust the sizeThis is a very nice muzzle. Should be really comfy for the dog, however, found it doesn't fit true to size. I have a black lab and it was too small for him. I would need a size larger. This product is the of the worst quality. One star is too many. The fabric is shredded, the interior is falling out and the mesh is disintigrating. I didn't buy these because my dogs are biters, they are eaters. So, I had hoped that they could keep my dogs out of stuff they shouldn't eat. But serious, save your money. Don't was your money!
